Does Google AdSense Search Make You Any Money?
by Michael Cheney
I've been using the Google AdSense program for a number of months now and I've
got to the stage where I'm making thousands of dollars every week. But I've
yet to find an effective use for the Google Search tool.
The Google Search tool enables you to place a bit of code on your site which
actually produces a search box that your visitors can use to search the Internet
or your website. It works by showing sponsored results amongst the results.
So this means if people are looking for something on your site, or on the Internet
from your site, they can use the Google Search tool to find it. If they then
click on an ad from the results, you get paid.
I think part of the problem I've had with it is that it was too bulky. The
image itself and the code that you have to use along with it meant that it took
up quite a lot of space on the page. For a long time now I've been asking them
for different colors of background because the background of the search tool
was quite limiting in terms of fitting in with my own website's color scheme.
Well it finally seems like they've started to pay attention.
Through the AdSense login you can now actually get a code for the Google Search
tool and place it on your site without even having the Google logo there. This
looks a lot more streamline and means it will fit into the look of your website
a lot more smoothly. Because of this it's likely that more people will actually
use the search. More people using the search will mean that you get more ads
being shown and higher clicks.
As far as I'm concerned though, the jury is still out as to whether or not
the Google Search tool with the AdSense
program is going to generate a large amount of revenue. The way I look at it
is that the search tool is only going to be used by people that can't find anything
of value on my website. So if I had a poorly designed website or a site that
didn't have a great deal of content, then I would understand a lot of people
using the search tool. Or if I had navigation that wasn't easy to use I could
also understand them using the Google Search tool then.
And perhaps that's the problem here. Perhaps people aren't using the search
tool often enough because they're finding everything they want to find on my
website, which is a great problem to have. Which turns the whole question around
from why isn't the Google toolbar earning me a great deal of money, to how can
I monetize all the pages on my site so that each one is generating revenue for
me? This is a totally different internet marketing question.
A lot of webmasters I've spoken to have given up on the Google Search tool
in favor of just the stray AdSense ads. Obviously AdSense
is taking off big style now and you see it on pretty much every single website.
But perhaps with this latest change from Google, where you can include the search
tool without a Google logo and in a more streamline format, more websites will
actually start to implement and benefit from it as a result.
