Google AdSense Launches Advertiser Sign-up

The Google AdSense program has recently launched their advertiser sign-up functionality.
This means that alongside your normal AdSense units, you get displayed a text
link that says "Advertise on This Site".
What happens is if people click on that link, they get taken to a particular
landing page that asks them if they would like to create an Adwords account
with Google. Ads that are created on that channel will then automatically target
your site. This means there will be more advertisers fighting for space on your
website, which in theory means more revenue for you from AdSense.
When you opt in to actually activate this feature, you can specify the nature
and color of the landing page. You get to change the color and format so that
it fits in with your general layout of your website. So then not only are your
AdSense ads earning revenue from all the clicks and traffic that you're getting,
each AdSense ad unit is also promoting the possibility for other advertisers
to jump onboard.
Now in principle this is a great idea and should mean that more people start
advertising on your site. Obviously, the more people that want to advertise
the higher the bid prices and the more you earn.
The only issue with this is if you offer direct advertising to potential customers
and advertising agencies. It may jar a little with your potential customers,
the larger ones that is, if you have an "Advertise on This Site" link
for AdSense. What you don't want to do is lose out on the large lucrative deals
with advertising agencies and direct customers just to get a few more AdSense
advertisers signing up. So you need to think carefully about whether or not
this is for you.
You'll also notice that you can opt out of the advertiser sign-up. It's been
implemented as being automatic but you can actually deactivate it. This change
is one of the Google AdSense changes in recent times that seems to be a step
in the right direction. A lot of webmasters have been asking for this to save
them from dealing with the hassle of contacting advertisers directly and opening
communication channels in that way.
When you're looking at your online advertising revenues using AdSense
and other channels, you need to remember though that people signing up through
this advertiser sign-up link from Google will be subject to their commission
rights. That means that you'll get around half of the revenue that the advertiser
generates. Obviously you need to weigh this up against getting a direct advertiser
from whom you'd get the full 100 percent revenue, but obviously if you went
that route you would need to go down the administration and time consuming route.
So it really depends on what your take for your website is. You may be getting
lots of inquiries everyday that you can still continue to deal with and also
use this AdSense advertiser sign up as a supplement to your existing income.
Whatever happens, AdSense
looks set to remain one of the leading online advertising solutions.
