Google Adwords Tips: Getting More Clicks for
Less Cost
by Michael Cheney
The Google Adwords Program is an excellent way to get direct traffic into your
website. There are two main ways that you can use it. One is if you advertise
directly on Google's search engine. The second is if you opt to advertise on
other people's sites using Google in what is called their AdSense program. Lots
of people use Adwords, but not many know these simple tips that can help you
get more clicks for less cost.
The first thing to do is to ascertain how to create the best looking advert.
One of the best things you can do is to capitalize the first letter of each
word in your advert.
You should always try to create an advert for each phrase in your campaign.
Don't have 100 phrases and just one ad. You really need at least one ad per
phrase. Whenever somebody types in the phrase they are looking for, if those
words appear in your ad, they will be made bold on the Google ad. This means
more people are likely to actually click on them. So you need different ads
for different phrases.
Another thing you need to consider is trying to get benefits into your ads.
There's no point to just include a list of features, you need benefits! Words
like affordable, great prices, low cost, quick delivery... these types of things.
The headline is the most important aspect of your ad. With the right headline
you can get lots and lots of people to click onto your ads. Great headlines
can include a question mark. If you ask people a question, they are more likely
to read the headline. Try to include the phrase you're targeting within the
headline. It's also a good idea to try and include it in the actual target web
address. You can do this by buying a particular domain name with the phrase
in it. You can also set up a subfolder using that phrase.
Another technique to get more clicks is to use negative qualifiers. If you
include price in the ad then you'll stop people who are wasting your time, and
don't have money, from clicking on the ad.
You can also use other negative qualifiers like age, sex and delivery, for
example, if you only want to target people of a particular age or people in
a certain geographical region.
You need to constantly track, test and improve. The best way to do this is
to create two ads for every phrase that you have in your campaign. Just change
one thing in each of the ads so one ad is just slightly different than the other.
The idea is that you either change a headline or you swap around lines two and
three to see what effect it has. You should always be running this idea of what's
called a "split-test." Split-testing is crucial to success with Adwords.
You test for two different ads and the best performing ad then gets changed
to become the new test.
Good luck with your Adwords campaigns.
